TLDR Buxus wallichiana extract improves hair growth and has antioxidant properties, with oral use more effective than topical.
The study conducted 14 years ago investigated the effects of Buxus wallichiana Baill extract on hair growth and antioxidant activity in rats. The methanol extract was administered orally at doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg and topically at concentrations of 5% and 10%. The findings revealed that the extract had significant antioxidant activity and promoted hair growth. The 100 mg/kg oral dose improved hair growth scores from day 3 to day 24, while the 50 mg/kg dose had a notable effect from day 15 to day 24. Topically, the 10% concentration increased hair scores significantly from day 15, and the 5% concentration showed improvements on days 21 and 24. The study concluded that Buxus wallichiana extract has potent antioxidant and hair growth properties, with oral administration being more effective than topical.
