TLDR Wait at least 8 weeks between hair dyeing for cuticle recovery.
The study investigated the morphological changes in hair cuticles after applying permanent dye, using scanning electron microscopy. Initially, cuticular swelling was observed after 30 minutes, followed by degradation starting at 90 minutes. Extensive cuticular detachment and cortical exposure were noted by 1 week, with damage peaking between 1 and 2 weeks. Although cuticles began regenerating, damage persisted after 6 weeks, with full regeneration by 8 weeks. The study concluded that hair coloring intervals should exceed 8 weeks to allow for cuticle recovery, and further research was needed to enhance cuticle protection and regeneration.
