TLDR A lotion helped remove hair casts, which seem to come from a specific part of the hair follicle, and patients with hair casts can be grouped based on the cause.
The study described idiopathic hair casts in two young girls, aged 5 and 7 years, and found that a 0.025% tretinoin lotion was effective in removing the casts. Microscopic investigations suggested that these lesions originated from the infrainfundibular region, as both inner and outer root sheath components were observed in the casts. The literature review allowed the researchers to classify patients into two groups: those with idiopathic disease showing a diffuse pattern and those with disease secondary to various inflammatory scalp disorders.
