TLDR Eastern Red Bat hair contains various glycerophospholipids, mainly phosphatidylcholine.
This study analyzed the glycerophospholipid (GP) composition of Eastern Red Bat hair using liquid chromatography electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry, identifying 152 GPs. The major GP classes included lysophosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylcholine (PC), lysophosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylserine, phosphatidic acid, and phosphatidylglycerol, with PC being the most abundant. The acyl components matched those found in bat sebum. The GP proportions on the hair surface differed from those in bat lung surfactants, providing a basis for future ecological studies in vespertilionid bats.
