TLDR Glycoconjugate sugars are important for hair follicle development.
The study investigated the distribution and changes of glycoconjugate terminal sugars during the morphogenesis of hair follicles in rats using a lectinhistochemical technique. Researchers used HRP-lectins specific for α-L Fuc, Gal (β1→3) GalNAC, and D-Gal (β1→3) DGalNAC terminal sugars on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded rat samples at embryonic days 16, 18, and 20. The findings showed that the expression of these sugars was developmentally regulated, with varying reactions observed in different components of the developing hair follicle, such as the epithermal bud, basement membrane, mesenchymal condensation, cortex, cuticle, and epithermal root sheath, across the different embryonic stages.
