TLDR Glucocorticoids affect dogs' skin reactions to histamine, which vary by time of day.
The study found a significant time-of-day-dependent variation in intradermal reactivity to histamine in dogs, with larger wheal sizes observed at 9:00 h compared to 21:00 h. Administration of exogenous glucocorticoids (prednisolone or hydrocortisone) and inhibition of endogenous glucocorticoids (trilostane) disrupted this variation, suggesting that glucocorticoids from the adrenal glands played a role in regulating this daily variation. The findings indicated that histamine-mediated reactions in dogs varied throughout the day, potentially influenced by circadian rhythms and glucocorticoid levels.
