TLDR Glucocorticoids affect dogs' skin reactions to histamine, which vary by time of day.
The study found that intradermal reactivity to histamine in dogs varied depending on the time of day, with larger wheal sizes observed at 9:00 h compared to 21:00 h. This variation was disrupted by administering prednisolone or trilostane, indicating that glucocorticoids play a role in this daily variation. Additionally, intradermal reactivity to histamine was significantly reduced 6 h after an intravenous injection of hydrocortisone, further suggesting that glucocorticoid secretion from the adrenal glands regulated these histamine-mediated reactions.
