TLDR Gingivitis may increase a hormone linked to ovarian function in women with a certain ovary condition, and treating gum disease could help manage it.
The study examined the impact of gingivitis on anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) levels in 84 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), finding that those with both PCOS and gingivitis had significantly higher saliva AMH levels compared to other groups. This suggests that gingivitis may influence AMH levels, a marker for ovarian function, and underscores the importance of oral health in the management of PCOS. The study also confirmed that AMH levels decrease with age. The findings highlight the potential of using AMH as a diagnostic marker for PCOS in women with gingivitis and suggest that periodontal treatment could be beneficial in managing PCOS symptoms.
