TLDR Better nutrition may reduce fecal incontinence in stroke patients by lowering inflammation and improving antioxidant levels.
The study found that the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) is significantly negatively associated with fecal incontinence (FI) and the fecal incontinence severity index (FISI) in individuals who have experienced a stroke. This relationship is mediated by the systemic immune inflammation (SII) index and oxidative balance scores (OBS). The findings emphasize the importance of anti-inflammatory interventions and antioxidant strategies in reducing the risk of FI in stroke patients.
