TLDR FUE and FUT hair transplants have similar success rates, with FUE slightly better.
This study compared the survival rates of follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit excision (FUE) grafts in 3 male patients undergoing hair transplantation with over 2,000 grafts each. The results showed minimal differences in graft and hair yields between the two techniques, with FUE grafts performing slightly better overall. Differences in graft yield never exceeded 2.7%, and hair yield differences were under 9.4%. The study suggested that modern FUE techniques might be as effective as FUT in terms of graft survival, but the small sample size prevented definitive conclusions. The study also noted that physician experience and the use of bio-enhancers and implanters could potentially improve FUE graft survival.
