TLDR FUT-MD hair transplants have higher follicle survival rates than FUE transplants.
In a study conducted over a 3-year period on four patients, 890 follicular unit extraction (FUE) follicles and 890 follicular unit transplantation with microscopic dissection (FUT-MD) follicles were compared to determine their survival rates. The study, conducted by Dr. Michael L. Beehner, found that FUT-MD grafts had a higher survival rate than FUE grafts. The overall survival rate for the 890 FUE follicles was 61.4%, while the FUT-MD follicles had an 86% survival rate. When excluding the patient with the lowest FUE survival rate, the survival rate for FUE follicles increased to 70.1%, while the FUT-MD survival rate remained relatively stable at 86.9%. The study concluded that despite the increasing popularity of FUE, FUT-MD, which has been the gold standard for 25 years, showed higher follicle survival rates.

      community Verteporfin and Microneedling

      in Treatments 6 months ago
Clinical studies by Dr. Barghouthi and Dr. Bloxham indicate that Verteporfin, when used with FUE and FUT hair transplantation methods, shows promise in hair follicle regeneration and minimal scarring due to its ability to inhibit Yes-associated protein (YAP). Microneedling at depths of 3-3.5mm, combined with Verteporfin, could potentially reactivate dormant follicles, although the optimal dosage and application method are still under investigation. Concerns remain about the DHT sensitivity of regenerated follicles, highlighting the need for further research to optimize trauma levels and Verteporfin concentrations to achieve effective and scar-free hair regeneration.

The conversation is about the progress of verteporfin in hair loss trials, with users expressing curiosity about its effectiveness and updates. Specific treatments mentioned include FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) combined with verteporfin, with one reported case of donor area regrowth after a year, and three patients being monitored post-treatment by Dr. Bloxham with monthly updates on YouTube.
