TLDR Apple 'Hirosaki' callus extracts may improve wrinkles, stimulate hair growth, and have anti-inflammatory effects for use in cosmetics.
The study investigated the potential of callus extracts from the apple 'Hirosaki' as cosmetic materials, focusing on their wrinkle improvement, hair growth stimulation, and anti-inflammatory effects. The extracts demonstrated comparable activity to TGF-β, a positive control, in promoting collagen synthesis at a concentration of 50 μg/mL. They also increased the proliferation of hair follicle dermal papilla cells by 40%. Notably, the callus extract exhibited significant anti-inflammatory properties, inhibiting approximately 50% of COX-2 expression, which mediates inflammation, and reducing eotaxin-1 production, associated with atopic dermatitis, by about 70%.
