TLDR Addressing body image and weight can help improve female sexual dysfunction.
The study examined sexual function in 68 women, half with PCOS and half as controls, using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). Cluster analysis revealed two distinct profiles: Sexual Dysfunction and Preserved Function. Women with PCOS were more often in the Dysfunction profile, characterized by lower FSFI scores, higher BMI, and poorer body image. However, body image dissatisfaction and higher adiposity were more significant determinants of sexual dysfunction than PCOS diagnosis alone. The findings suggest that psychosocial and anthropometric factors should be prioritized over diagnosis in assessing sexual function, advocating for tailored interventions. Despite the modest sample size, the study emphasizes the need for integrated assessments and personalized care strategies.
