TLDR Frankincense may help treat COVID-19, but more research is needed.
The study investigates the potential of frankincense (Boswellia) and its boswellic acids (BAs) in treating COVID-19, highlighting its antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties. Clinical trials showed that frankincense could reduce hyperinflammation, improve immune response, and enhance outcomes in COVID-19 patients without serious adverse effects. A randomized double-blind trial revealed that patients receiving frankincense had higher oxygen saturation, shorter hospital stays, and lower IL-6 levels, with a 44% reduction in positive virus tests. While promising, further research is needed to optimize BAs' antiviral properties and confirm their efficacy in COVID-19 treatment.
