TLDR White wax and its policosanol boost hair growth better than finasteride.
The study investigated the effects of white wax (WW) and policosanol of white wax (WWP) on hair growth in a mouse model of androgenetic alopecia. WW and WWP were applied topically in varying concentrations, with finasteride as a positive control. Results indicated that WW and WWP significantly promoted hair growth, outperforming finasteride, by increasing follicular length, density, and hair bulb diameter. They also enhanced the proliferation of human follicle dermal papilla cells (HFDPCs) and inhibited the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone by targeting 5α-reductase. The optimal effects were observed at 10% WW and 1% WWP concentrations.
