TLDR Grooved microneedles made from hyaluronic acid can deliver drugs into the skin with 98% accuracy.
The study developed grooved microneedles (MNs) made from hyaluronic acid for improved transdermal drug delivery, addressing challenges in dosage control and application time. By adjusting the aspect ratio and groove position, the MNs could be mechanically fractured to release drugs like triamcinolone acetonide (TCA) for alopecia areata with high precision. The MNs demonstrated a 98% success rate in delivering the drug accurately into the skin using a specially designed applicator. This grooved MN platform showed potential for precise and scalable transdermal drug delivery.
