TLDR PRP or nanofat injections improve scar tissue quality but don't significantly boost hair transplant results for scarring hair loss.
In 2020, a study was conducted on 30 patients with secondary cicatricial alopecia to assess the effectiveness of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and nanofat injections in combination with follicular unit extraction hair transplantation. The patients were divided into three groups: Group A received PRP injections, Group B received nanofat injections, and Group C underwent hair transplantation only. The average hair growth for groups A, B, and C was 83.76%, 84.73%, and 83.70% respectively. The study concluded that while PRP or nanofat injections improved the texture and quality of scarred tissues, they did not significantly enhance the clinical outcomes of hair restoration, including hair growth density. All three methods were found to be effective in treating secondary cicatricial alopecia.
