TLDR Folic acid helped a calf regrow hair lost due to deficiency.
A three-week-old male Charolais calf with progressive hair loss and symptoms resembling folic acid deficiency in humans was treated with folic acid therapy. The calf received 1 mg/kg/day of folic acid orally, leading to the disappearance of crusts and patches within two weeks and complete hair regrowth and recovery within two months. This case suggested that folic acid, essential for cellular turnover in tissues including hair follicles, could be an effective treatment for certain types of alopecia caused by folic acid deficiency or related co-enzyme deficiencies.
