TLDR Taking 1 mg finasteride for a year reduces dihydrotestosterone levels in men with early hair loss, but doesn't change their metabolic state.
This study aimed to assess the effect of 1 year of treatment with 1 mg finasteride on hormonal levels, lipid spectrum, and insulin sensitivity in men with premature androgenetic alopecia. The study included 30 men with premature hair loss, and their hormone levels, lipid spectrum, and insulin tolerance were measured before and after 4, 8, and 12 months of treatment. The results showed a decrease in dihydrotestosterone levels after treatment, as well as changes in other steroid metabolites. However, the metabolic state remained unchanged.
