TLDR Finasteride worsens heart damage but reduces cell toxicity caused by nandrolone decanoate.
The study investigated the effects of finasteride on the cardiac and mutagenic impacts of nandrolone decanoate (ND) in male Wistar rats. ND increased cardiac hypertrophy, ACE activity, and disrupted cytokine balance, and these effects were exacerbated by finasteride. However, finasteride reduced ND's toxic effects on bone marrow cells, normalizing the number of micronucleate polychromatic erythrocytes and the mitotic index. The findings indicated that ND's harmful effects were partly due to its metabolism, and finasteride had varying effects depending on the organ, worsening cardiac damage while reducing mutagenic effects.
