TLDR Finasteride does not increase the risk of suicide attempts.
This study examined the potential association between finasteride, a medication for hair loss, and suicide attempts via self-poisoning. Utilizing data from Danish health registries, the research included 3,366 cases of males with suicidal intent poisoning and 33,660 matched controls. The study adjusted for factors such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and occupational status. The findings indicated no significant link between finasteride use and the risk of suicide attempts, with an unadjusted odds ratio of 1.03 and an adjusted odds ratio of 0.88, suggesting that finasteride does not increase the risk of suicide attempts through self-poisoning.
