TLDR Finasteride can cause skin reactions, so dermatologists should be aware.
This report documented a case of a 39-year-old Japanese male who developed a fixed drug eruption on the penis after taking finasteride for androgenic alopecia. Despite negative patch test results, an oral provocation test confirmed finasteride as the cause of the eruption. The study highlighted that fixed drug eruptions can occur with a wide range of medications, not just specific categories, and emphasized the need for dermatologists to be aware of such reactions, especially given the widespread use of finasteride for treating alopecia and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
