TLDR The ethosomal formulation improved finasteride delivery through the skin.
The study focused on developing finasteride ethosomes for transdermal drug delivery, using varying concentrations of ethanol and soya lecithin. The optimal formulation, containing 30% ethanol and 3% soya lecithin, achieved the highest drug release of 82.66% and transdermal flux. The entrapment efficiency was 85.32%, and the drug content was 99.5%. The ethosomes were spherical with uniform size, and ethanol concentration significantly affected entrapment efficiency. The drug release followed first-order kinetics with a Higuchi diffusion mechanism. The ethosomal formulation showed promise for enhancing transdermal delivery of finasteride compared to a nanogel.
