TLDR A man got brown patches on his skin (melasma) after taking finasteride, a hair loss treatment.
In 2014, a case report was published about a Caucasian male who developed melasma, a condition characterized by brownish patches on the skin, typically on the face, after taking finasteride for androgenic alopecia. The researchers noted an increase in the number of men presenting with melasma since the introduction of finasteride 1mg daily tablets for hair loss treatment. They hypothesized that this could be due to the effects of finasteride on estrogen and progesterone concentrations in the skin.
