Faculty Opinions recommendation of Large-scale genome-wide meta-analysis of polycystic ovary syndrome suggests shared genetic architecture for different diagnosis criteria.
TLDR PCOS shares similar genetic traits across different diagnosis criteria and is linked to other health conditions.
A large-scale genome-wide meta-analysis involving over 10,000 cases of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) identified 14 independent loci associated with the risk of PCOS, including three novel loci. The study found no significant differences in genetic associations across various clinical phenotypes of PCOS, suggesting that common genetic traits may underlie the different phenotypes. This research provided insights into the shared genetic architecture of PCOS, regardless of the diagnostic criteria used.
