TLDR Age and diabetes are linked to larger trichilemmal cysts, while hypertension is linked to smaller ones.
This study of 27 patients with trichilemmal cysts found that age and diabetes mellitus (DM) are associated with larger cysts, while hypertension (HT) is negatively associated with cyst size. Infection risk is higher in patients with DM and HT, though not statistically significant due to the small sample size. Older age and larger cyst size are linked to multiple lesions. The study underscores the importance of considering age and health conditions, particularly DM, in managing trichilemmal cysts, and suggests that intrinsic and systemic factors play a more significant role than environmental or lifestyle factors in cyst development. Further research is needed to confirm these findings and understand the biological mechanisms involved.
