TLDR Many COVID-19 patients, especially women, experienced hair loss, often linked to diabetes and lack of dietary supplements.
This study investigates the prevalence and factors associated with Acute Telogen Effluvium (TE) in COVID-19 patients. Conducted at Sohail Trust Hospital in Karachi, the study involved 100 COVID-19 PCR-positive patients from January to July 2022. Results showed that 64% of female participants experienced TE post-COVID-19, with diabetes being the most common co-morbidity. The temporal region was the most affected area, and lack of dietary supplements was linked to severe hair loss. Additionally, 34.6% of those with hair loss reported similar issues in family members post-COVID-19. Only 7% sought professional treatment, highlighting the need for greater awareness and treatment accessibility for TE in COVID-19 survivors.
