TLDR Both laser and microneedling are effective for treating resistant alopecia areata.
The study compared the efficacy of fractional CO2 laser and microneedling (MN) for treating resistant alopecia areata (AA) in 30 patients, divided into two groups of 15. Both groups received triamcinolone acetonide topically after their respective treatments. Results showed no significant difference in overall effectiveness between the two methods, although the MN group had a higher incidence of black dots (46.7% vs. 13.3%). At the first follow-up, 13.3% of the laser group experienced terminal hair regrowth, compared to none in the MN group. Both methods allowed for uniform drug distribution and were highly effective in treating resistant AA.
