TLDR Extracellular water levels don't indicate COVID-19 pneumonia severity.
The study involving 65 COVID-19 pneumonia patients used the bioimpedance method to assess extracellular water (ECW) and found no significant differences in ECW, stroke volume, or cardiac output between patients in general wards and those in intensive care. This suggests that pulmonary edema is not a primary factor in early disease stages, and ECW measurements did not correlate with disease severity. Despite these findings, fluid management remains crucial in COVID-19 treatment, and further research is needed to explore fluid therapy's role, as COVID-19 ARDS may differ from classical ARDS. Limitations include short measurement duration and not accounting for patient comorbidities.
