A Review on Ethosomes Promising as Novel Drug Delivery Systems

Ethosomes are innovative lipid-based carriers that enhance drug penetration through the skin due to their high ethanol content, making them effective for delivering both hydrophilic and lipophilic drugs via topical or transdermal routes. They offer advantages such as improved skin penetration, flexibility in drug loading, and biocompatibility. However, challenges like vesicle stability, including phospholipid oxidation and vesicle fusion during storage, remain. Various assessment techniques are employed to ensure the quality, effectiveness, and safety of ethosomal formulations as drug delivery systems.
