TLDR Managing side effects of endocrine therapy is crucial to improve adherence and survival in breast cancer patients.
Endocrine therapy (ET) is effective in reducing recurrence and mortality in hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer patients, but its side effects can negatively impact quality of life and lead to poor adherence and early discontinuation, affecting survival outcomes. This review highlights the importance of addressing ET-related side effects, such as vasomotor symptoms, musculoskeletal disorders, genitourinary syndrome of menopause, fatigue, psychological and ocular disorders, dysmetabolic effects, and bone density loss. It also discusses pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies to alleviate these symptoms, emphasizing the need for better management to improve patient adherence and outcomes.
