TLDR A new technique effectively treats and diagnoses eruptive vellus hair cysts without recurrence.
The study focused on eruptive vellus hair cysts, which are uncommon developmental anomalies of vellus hair follicles. Two patients with asymptomatic flesh-colored papules on the chest, abdomen, and axillae were treated using a novel extraction technique involving cautery and standard dissecting forceps under topical anesthesia. Over 150 cysts were successfully extracted, with no recurrence observed after 4 months. The technique was found to be simple, quick, and well-tolerated. Histopathological examination confirmed the presence of cyst walls, indicating the procedure's curative potential. Additionally, the technique allowed for rapid diagnosis through microscopic examination of potassium hydroxide preparations, suggesting its utility as both a treatment and diagnostic method.
