TLDR Dermoscopy can non-invasively detect eruptive vellus hair cysts on the labia majora.
The study focused on eruptive vellus hair cysts (EVHC) located on the labia majora, which are typically small, asymptomatic papules with a smooth or centrally umbilicated surface. Using dermoscopy, the researchers detected openings of these cysts to the epidermis. This finding provided a non-invasive method to identify and study EVHC, which are histopathologically characterized as epidermoid cysts. The research was conducted by the Department of Dermatology at Kinki University Faculty of Medicine in Japan.
