TLDR Recognizing erosive pustular dermatosis of the scalp is crucial to avoid misdiagnosis.
Erosive pustular dermatosis of the scalp was presented in a 63-year-old female with a history of alopecia and recent scalp trauma. The condition, characterized by sterile pustules, erosions, and crusted lesions, was confirmed through clinical and histopathological examination, revealing features such as epidermal acanthosis and neutrophilic infiltration. Despite its rare occurrence, particularly in sun-damaged skin of elderly individuals with alopecia, the condition can be triggered by various local traumas. It is often misdiagnosed as other infections or inflammatory diseases. The patient's lesions healed completely after a 2-week treatment with topical mometasone furoate, highlighting the importance of accurate diagnosis to avoid confusion with other conditions.
