TLDR Erosive palmoplantar lichen planus in North-East India mainly affects the feet and often involves nails, with unique inflammatory skin changes.
This study provides insights into the rare condition of erosive palmoplantar lichen planus (LP) through a retrospective analysis of 16 patients from North East India, predominantly involving pediatric and male patients. All patients exhibited plantar involvement, with half showing nail involvement, and only 2 patients had typical LP lesions elsewhere. Histopathological analysis revealed a band-like inflammatory infiltrate at the dermo-epidermal junction in all cases and basal cell degeneration in 93.75% of cases. This study is significant as it represents the largest cohort of this condition from a single indigenous tribal population, highlighting its unique clinical and histopathological features.
