TLDR Nanosuspension increased finasteride's water solubility by over 2.5 times.
The study aimed to enhance the aqueous solubility of finasteride by developing a drug nanosuspension using bottom-up technology and optimization techniques. It investigated the impact of formulation and processing variables on particle size, finding that solvent ratio, homogenization speed, and stabilizer concentration significantly influenced the outcome. The interaction effects of these variables also played a crucial role. The optimized finasteride nanoparticles increased aqueous solubility by over 2.5 times compared to the drug alone, suggesting that nanosuspension is an effective method for improving the solubility and potentially the bioavailability of poorly water-soluble drugs.
