TLDR Fluorescence can effectively measure acne treatment progress.
The study concluded that endogenous skin fluorescence was an effective marker for objectively evaluating comedolysis. Using 36 female rhino mice treated with varying concentrations of all-trans retinoic acid (tRA), researchers observed significant changes in fluorescence spectra that correlated with histologic changes in the skin, such as utriculi size and dermal/epidermal thickness. Higher tRA concentrations led to more pronounced fluorescence changes, indicating effective comedolysis. This noninvasive method could potentially replace invasive histology for assessing comedolytic agents.
