Effect of Epidermal Growth Factor and Platelet-Rich Plasma in Experimental Rat Burn Model

TLDR PRP and EGF speed up healing in severe rat burns.
This study investigated the effects of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) on burn wounds in 48 male Spraque-Dawley rats. The rats were divided into four groups: a control group, a group treated with EGF, a group treated with EGF + PRP, and a group treated with PRP. The results showed statistically significant improvements in epidermis regeneration, granulation, inflammation, and hair follicle regeneration in the treated groups compared to the control group over 21 days. The study concluded that PRP and EGF positively affected and accelerated wound healing in rats with third-degree burns.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Stopping microneedling may result in losing hair gains, as it enhances the effectiveness of treatments like minoxidil. Combining microneedling with minoxidil and finasteride is more effective than using microneedling alone.
