TLDR Antibiotics and finasteride are very effective for treating pediatric hidradenitis suppurativa.
This systematic review examined the efficacy and safety of medical treatments for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) in pediatric patients, analyzing 35 articles involving 101 patients under 18 years of age. The study found that antibiotics, finasteride, biologics, oral retinoids, and metformin showed varying degrees of effectiveness, with antibiotics and finasteride having a 100% response rate. However, the evidence was primarily based on case reports and series, highlighting the need for prospective studies and clinical trials to better understand and optimize treatment strategies for pediatric HS.
