TLDR Using Calcipotriol with Clobetasol is more effective for treating Alopecia Areata than using Clobetasol alone.
In a randomized clinical trial involving 60 patients with Alopecia Areata (AA), the efficacy of combining topical Calcipotriol 0.005% with topical Clobetasol 0.05% was compared to the use of topical Clobetasol 0.05% alone. The patients, aged between 20 and 32 years, were divided into two groups of thirty and treated over a period of 24 weeks. The Severity Of Alopecia Tool (SALT) score was used to measure treatment effectiveness at baseline, 6, 12, and 24 weeks. The study found that the mean SALT score decreased significantly in both groups, but the reduction was greater in the group receiving the combination therapy (Group B: from 9.85±4.95 to 3.66±3.53, p=0.0001) compared to the monotherapy group (Group A: from 10.45±5.25 to 5.98±4.32, p=0.0007). The results indicated that the combination of topical Calcipotriol and Clobetasol was more effective than Clobetasol alone in treating AA.
