TLDR The combination of laser and topical steroids is more effective for treating alopecia areata than topical steroids alone.
The study compared the effectiveness of topical steroids alone versus a combination of fractional Er: YAG laser and topical steroids in treating alopecia areata in 30 participants. Both treatments significantly improved clinical outcomes, as measured by the SALT score, patient satisfaction, and dermoscopic imaging. However, the combination treatment showed a more pronounced reduction in the SALT score and dermoscopic findings, indicating it is a safer and more effective treatment modality for alopecia areata than topical steroids alone.
