TLDR Combining betamethasone and PRP injections works best for treating alopecia areata.
The study compared the efficacy of betamethasone injections, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, and their combination in treating alopecia areata in 104 patients with an average age of 35.7 years. Patients were randomly divided into three groups: one received betamethasone injections monthly, the second received PRP injections bi-weekly for 16 weeks, and the third received alternating treatments of betamethasone and PRP. Observations were made before treatment and at 3, 6, and 17 months post-treatment. The results indicated that the combination therapy yielded the best outcomes, particularly in long-term follow-ups.
