TLDR Niosomal minoxidil was found to be more effective in increasing hair count and patient satisfaction than conventional minoxidil in treating hair loss.
In 2014, a randomized, controlled, double-blind clinical trial was conducted to compare the efficacy of niosomal minoxidil with conventional minoxidil in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The study involved 90 male patients with AGA, of which 88 completed the trial. The results showed that the mean increased hair count in the niosomal minoxidil group was 28.18±11.00, compared to 14.22±5.23 in the conventional minoxidil group. Patient self-assessments also revealed more satisfaction in the niosomal group. The study concluded that the application of topical niosomal minoxidil resulted in a higher increase in hair count compared to conventional minoxidil solution, suggesting that this new formulation may be recommended for the treatment of AGA.
