TLDR N-acetyl-cysteine improves hair growth and is safe for treating early male hair loss.
The study investigated the effectiveness and safety of N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) alone and in combination with minoxidil for treating early-onset androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 100 men aged 18-30. Results showed significant improvements in trichoscopic parameters, including increased terminal hair count and decreased vellus hair count, at both vertex and frontotemporal sites compared to the control group. The treatments were generally well-tolerated, with side effects not necessitating discontinuation. The study concluded that NAC significantly improved most trichoscopic features of AGA and was well-tolerated.
