TLDR Diphenylcyclopropenone treatment helps prevent hair loss relapse in alopecia areata patients.
This retrospective study evaluated the efficacy of diphenylcyclopropenone maintenance treatment (DPCP-MT) in preventing relapse in 63 patients with alopecia areata (AA) who had achieved >90% hair regrowth. The relapse rate (RR) was significantly lower in the maintenance-treated group (24.4%) compared to the maintenance-untreated group (68.2%). Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses indicated that DPCP-MT was an independent prognostic factor for lower relapse rates. The study suggested that DPCP-MT could maintain AA remission, emphasizing the importance of carefully adjusting treatment intervals after clinical improvement. Limitations included the small sample size and retrospective design.
