Assessment of the Efficacy and Tolerability of a Topical Formulation Containing Caffeine and Procapil 3% for Improvement of Male Pattern Hair Loss

TLDR The topical treatment with caffeine and Procapil 3% improved male pattern hair loss and was well tolerated after 12 weeks.
The study evaluated the efficacy and tolerability of a topical formulation containing caffeine and Procapil 3% for improving male pattern hair loss. The 12-week study involved 20 males aged 18-57 years with hair loss types II-IV. The combing test showed a 26.9% decrease in hair loss at Week 12, and 68.5% and 68.4% of patients showed slight/much improvement in hair growth at Weeks 6 and 12, respectively. Tricoscale assessment showed a 53% increase in terminal/vellus hair ratio at Week 12. After 12 weeks of treatment, a 12.8% increase in the anagen/telogen ratio was also observed. At Weeks 6 and 12, 79% and 84.2% of participants rated their hair loss as “improved” or “improved very much,” respectively. No adverse effects were reported. The study concluded that a 12-week treatment course with a topical formulation containing caffeine and Procapil 3% is a beneficial and promising treatment for AGA.
