TLDR Finasteride reduces dihydrotestosterone, increases testosterone, and may treat hirsutism in women.
The study investigated the effects of finasteride, a 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor, on circulating androgens and gonadotropin secretion in hirsute women. The results showed that finasteride significantly reduced serum dihydrotestosterone levels and increased serum testosterone levels, but did not affect gonadotropin secretion. The study suggests that finasteride may be a useful treatment for hirsutism in women.
