TLDR Essential oils can help hair grow and are safer and more accessible than other treatments.
The study from 2020 reviewed the effectiveness of essential oils in promoting hair growth and treating alopecia. Out of 43 articles found, only three met the study's criteria. The research concluded that essential oils can be effective for alopecia, inducing hair growth, and increasing the thickness and volume of hair strands. The oils found to stimulate hair growth included Chamaecyparis obtusa (a species of cypress native to central Japan), Peppermint oil, and a solution with essential oils of Thyme vulgaris (thyme), Lavandula augustifolia (lavender), Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary), and Cedrus atlantica (cedar), mixed in jojoba and grape carrier oil. Essential oils were considered more accessible and safer compared to other alopecia treatments available on the market.
