TLDR Bilateral Orchiectomy effectively reduces the need for anti-androgen medication in most transgender females.
The study conducted between 2008-2018 assessed the impact of Bilateral Orchiectomy (BO) on the hormone regimen of 19 patients with gender dysphoria. The median age at the time of surgery was 46 years. All 16 patients for whom pre-operative medication regimen information was available were on anti-androgen therapy prior to surgery for a median duration of 42.5 months. Post-operatively, 91.7% of patients stopped anti-androgen therapy, and 25% reduced their exogenous estrogen supplementation. The study concluded that BO is an effective means of negating the need for ongoing androgen reducing medication for the majority of transgender female patients.
