TLDR Saengbal-eum promotes hair growth similarly to Minoxidil and could be used for alopecia treatment.
In 2007, a study was conducted to investigate the effects of Saengbal-eum, a hair care product composed of eight plant extracts used in oriental medicine, on hair regrowth in a shaving model of C57BL6 mice. The study involved four experimental groups of 12 female mice, including a control group, a positive control of 3% Minoxidil (MXD), and two groups treated with 30% and 100% Saengbal-eum extracts. The compounds were topically applied once a day for 14 days. The results showed that both 3% MXD and Saengbal-eum promoted hair regrowth earlier and faster than the control groups, with no significant difference between the MXD and Saengbal-eum groups. The study concluded that Saengbal-eum has hair growth promoting activity and could potentially be used for the treatment of alopecia, with these effects related to the revelation of Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) in hair roots.
