TLDR Orthosiphon stamineus extract can significantly boost hair growth and cell proliferation in hair loss patients.
The study investigated the effects of Orthosiphon stamineus extract (OSE) on dermal papilla cell proliferation and hair growth in androgenic alopecia (AGA) patients. Dermal papilla cells were cultured with OSE at concentrations of 25-250 μg/mL, showing no acute cytotoxicity and significant cell proliferation after 5 days. In an ex vivo hair follicle culture using 45 hair samples from three AGA patients, OSE at 500 μg/mL enhanced hair growth by 12% after 14 days, significantly more than the vehicle control (6.46%). The total hair growth was significantly increased by 217% with OSE at 500 μg/mL compared to the vehicle. The study concluded that OSE could significantly stimulate hair follicle growth and dermal papilla cell proliferation in AGA patients.
